Cooperativa de Formação e Animação Cultural (COFAC) is the organization legally responsible for the maintenance of the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) and CICANT.

An important aspect of its mission is to promote the affirmation of “Lusofonia” at all levels, including its integration with other geographical and cultural areas within and outside Europe. To this end, Lusofona has been the heart of the national and international network of educational, research and cultural institutions, developed and managed by Lusofona University.

Today, this network integrates twelve higher education institutions, in Brazil, Mozambique, Angola and Cabo Verde. CICANT (from COFAC) is one of the four centers of CIC.Digital and was born from the joint work of all the teachers of the School of communication, art and information technology with the aim of creating an autonomous research unit that allows the integration of all research activities carried out within the school, in particular by focusing on knowledge transfer and exchange with industry and similar centers in Portugal and Europe. CICANT stands out for its cutting-edge technical structures and the highly applied nature of its teaching and learning activities oriented towards research and knowledge transfer.

In recent years, CICANT has been developing research in the field of media literacy. This research has led CICANT to several publications in journals, conferences and different projects in this field of study, some as partners, others as coordinators. During this period, CICANT developed materials and new approaches in training. In addition, Lusofona University is now developing its new platform for online courses, based on EdX.
